As long as I can remember I have always loved to sing. I was fortunate to have parents who encouraged my natural gift and also very fortunate that I lived in
Poland, a country where day music schools were part of the school
systems. I enjoyed playing the piano, learning about music harmony, theory,
literature but "solfege" (ear training) and chorus seemed always to be
most fun. I started taking voice lessons in high school and went to university for music education while continuing with my voice training as well
as learning choral conducting.
All throughout my musical career, choral and solo singing was the most fulfilling and therapeutic experience for me. It always gave me
unspeakable joy and also elevated my emotions in hard times.
After 15 years teaching children music, I am convinced that every child can sing. It is often after they are told that they cannot sing
that they stop singing.
Our voice is an instrument that goes from the top of our head to
the bottom of our feet and especially includes the breathing organ and
the larynx. It is when we have the desire to communicate feelings that
the vocal and breathing mechanism is activated and WE SING! Actually, it is with our own voice-instrument that we can make the
most beautiful music because music making comes from within. All other
instruments we play employ only the music that is in our body. It is the singing (even if in our head) that supports
the playing on an instrument.
As I have said above, I truly love singing and know firsthand the joy
it brings to my life so I would like to share it with the children. I hope
to plant the love for singing I have and hope you will watch it grow
throughout their lifetime. It never gets older only better.
People who know me hear me often say that it is worth living just for
the joy of singing.
I am starting the children's choir for boys and girls ages 7-12. The children will develop a repertoir based on American
folk /traditional songs as well as classical and chosen popular
songs. In the process of learning new songs they will become musically
literate, learn about singing technique and music theory.
In the plans are Winter and Spring concerts for the families and I will also be
looking into possibilities of community service to bring the beauty of vocal music to people of all ages who need it the most.
Please have your child come and SING! It will change his or her life and your life, too!
